About

Welcome to the Secular Religion Web log!  I'm glad that you have found your way here.

The primary goal in creating this blog was to have a publicly-accessible area for sharing my thoughts on a set of issues ranging from matters of the spirit to matters of science. Topics you might find discussed here are:
  • Spiritual/belief matters, such as the nature of GOD, and the relation of belief to knowledge.
  • Historical religious matters, such as the origins of Christianity, and the development of the Bible.
  • Social and political matters, such as the role of government, and the duties and responsibilities of citizens.
  • Scientific matters, such as the hard sciences along with their softer sides.
  • Cultural matters, such as new cultural trends, old trends, and personal hobbies.
I typically enjoy keeping posts pretty much in line with a given topic, and am not a fan of wandering.  For this reason, I screen all comments that are posted to ensure that comments are on-topic, relevant, and new.

In this blog I would like others to have as great of an opportunity as possible to reply to me and challenge my opinions.  Every worthy post would ideally spiral into an in-depth discussion amongst my followers and myself.  To achieve this, it is necessary to monitor comments for quality.  However, I have no intention of stifling criticism, and I will readily approve almost any comments made, except:
  • Comments with no content whatsoever.  Comments that only say 'yeah, what he said' or something similar are completely worthless, both to myself and others.  The discussions here should involve meaningful argumentation that addresses the topic in order to develop deeper understanding of the topic.  Thus, this is not a popularity contest, and the number of people who agree with a given point of view is irrelevant if none of them can give reasoning for their position.
  • Comments that are entirely off-topic.  Leniency is pretty high when it comes to determining how on-topic a comment is.  Nevertheless, there are still limits as to how far one can stray from the barn before no longer being on the farm.
  • SPAM!  If you spam, you will be deleted from the followers' list, and I will report you to Google as the scum bag that you are.  Last I heard, Google punishes blog spammers by grinding them to pieces and spraying them out on a canvas to serve as the design for their next themed search engine logo.
In addition to these no-nos, other actions may be taken to maintain an enjoyable blog (e.g., censoring horribly offensive content).1 I really want this blog to remain a place where the free exchange of ideas can lead us all to a deeper understanding of ourselves, one another, and the world we inhabit.

If you have anything you'd like to say to me about this blog, please contact me at my email address and I will attempt to reply to you as soon as I can!

Once again, I am glad you have found your way here; I thank you for taking the time to check the place out; I hope you can find some posts fit for commenting; and I look forward to interacting with you on the Main page!

1 My tolerance level for offense is extremely high. It is not likely that I will take offense personally to anything posted. But since this blog is public, I may still censor certain words in comments that others might find offensive, especially racial, sexual, ethnic or other slurs.  I do not censor out swear words (such as 'fuck', 'damn', 'cunt', 'God damnit', etc.) or moderate curses to fellows (such as 'stupid', 'idiot', 'dick-head', etc.).  Thus, if you see your comments being censored, that should be a solid-enough warning that they need to be toned down.
